When life feels overwhelming, like I’m emotionally running on fumes, or I feel myself clenching my jaw, holding my breath or shoulders high.. I roll this on the side and back my neck & wrists over my pulse points, take a deep breath, roll my shoulders back & intentionally take a moment to reset.

These are my tried & true, most reached for and most refilled roller blends below – each doubles as a personalized perfume too!

First, our senses are incredible. Our senses can alter our emotional state very quickly. A couple examples would be when you just finished eating your favorite meal and now you feel comforted and happy. Or when loud noises can make you feel anxious or irritable.

Our sense of smell is the only sense that directly affects the limbic system of our brain. Smells go directly to an area of our brain that causes an immediate emotional reaction. For a quick breakdown, this article breaks it down well.

The limbic system is the seat of memory and emotions. We know eotions can be hard- they can stem from the past or present or in anticipation of what’s coming. They also impact our hormones, oxytocin, melatonin, cortisol and our flight or fight response, among many other things

It’s amazing what inhaling/smelling an essential oil for a minute can do for your body and brain. Studies have shown that smells have instant psychological and physiological effects. Which means carrying your favorite calming essential oils or a roller with you can offer you a wonderful option for support.

Oils give you the options to have a perfume that supports. I want to share more on why you might want to try oils instead of conventional perfume.

First, know that perfume is a big business. Sadly, it is also a largely unregulated industry and perfume companies can put nearly any chemical they want in their formulas and get away with it. They are often made of lab-created scents – chemical compounds with hormone disrupting chemicals and chemicals that could cause allergic reactions such as asthma, wheezing, headaches, migraines and dermatitis. A few main points I want to share with links for you to dig into:

+ Many chemicals found in fragrance, like phthalates, are toxic to your ovaries, impact your fertility and are toxic to developing embryos. They damage follicles in their development into eggs. Phthalates also mess with your ovaries’ ability to produce estrogen and progesterone, further throwing off your hormonal balance. Article link.

+ Men’s ability to create sperm is disrupted, which can lead to a reduced sperm count. These chemicals can also alter sperm genes related to growth and development impacting the early development of a baby. High concentrations of these chemicals in couples undergoing IVF treatments has been associated with increased risk for failed IVF and miscarriage. Article link.

+ A 2011 study confirmed fragrance ingredients can cause cancer.

+ Scientists find growing evidence that chemicals in scents and cleaning sprays are causing cancer, headaches and harming unborn babies (extract of a purchased article).

Long ago I wore perfume every day. After years of making small changes to reduce synthetic fragrance, my body doesn’t tolerate conventional perfume anymore. Without knowing I needed to part with them, I just started using them less – and using my oils more. My body detoxed and now clearly tells me I need to stay away from these toxic concoctions.

15 drops Sacred Mountain
15 drops Bergamot
10 drops Stress Away
8 drops Idaho Blue Spruce (or Black Spruce)
8 drops Tangerine

10 drops Bergamot
10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Valor
10 drops Stress Away

MAMA CALM ROLLER:
15 drops Stress Away
10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Valor
10 drops Vetiver
10 drops White Angelica
10 drops Lavender

MELLOW MIX ROLLER:
15 drops Lavender
15 drops Valor
10 drops Vetiver
10 drops Grapefruit
10 drops Joy
5 drops Release
5 drops Cedarwood

GOLDEN:
10 drops White Angelica
10 drops Orange

Each recipe is for a 10ml roller.

Add your drops of essential oils first, then top with carrier oil of choice- we use fractionated coconut oil. Roll over wrists, behind the ears, sides of neck or inner elbows as needed. Pure essential oils are potent, using a carrier oil dilutes them which helps them stretch further, slow absorption and reduce any possible sensitivity.
