Ladies, let’s chat hormones.. we know that our hormones impact our mood, emotions, stress response, appetite.. sex drive, our skin health, energy levels and gut health. I used to have the worst cycles- and 15 years on various kinds of birth control did not help. I dreaded my period and felt like I had no control for a long time. I didn’t know I had options. So let’s chat about the two most common hormones:

First, Estrogen- Right before your period starts, estrogen levels plummet. This is part of the reason why you may feel the need to start crying when your eye liner doesn’t go on straight. Everything is tragic when your estrogen levels are low. Estrogen also makes you feel more ” in the mood”. This is because our estrogen levels are highest when we are ovulating. Also know that as we age, our estrogen levels drop.

Second, Progesterone is a critical hormone for a normal cycle and for pregnancy. If you’re trying to get pregnant, know that progesterone levels thicken the lining of the uterus for a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg implants, healthy progesterone levels maintain the lining of the uterus. If you’re not pregnant, they start to drop and also bottom out before your period.

And yes that’s a one-two punch of very low hormones right before your cycle- no wonder we can feel so horrible! But you have some options to naturally support healthy hormone levels!
